On June 8, 2022, Provincial Science & Technology Center (PSTC)-Laguna was invited by Silent Integrated Farm located at Brgy. Dagatan Liliw, Laguna, to conduct a training on the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Silent Integrated Farm is a sustainable and innovative tourism destination serving as a learning center that produces good and healthy food, value-adding crops, and cruelty-free products where everyone can enjoy the happy farming community. The activity aims to discuss the importance of cGMP implementation in the food processing business. The training was rendered by Engr. Wilma G. del Rosario, SRS II of PSTC-Laguna, together with Ms. Anna Marie M. Marasigan, PA-II: both are members of the Regional Food Safety Team.

Engr. Wilma G. del Rosario started her cGMP presentation by defining terms that will be encountered in the training seminar then presented the GMP organization and their roles in the production area. Her presentation covered the requirements in the site premises and plant construction design encompassing floors, drains, walls, ceilings, lighting, doors, windows, and ventilation. Among others, she imparted knowledge on proper sanitation and hygiene when handling food that includes the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Throughout her presentation, she cites on relevant and credible resources such as Department of Health Administrative Orders.

In line with the activity’s objective, Ms. Anna Marie M. Marasigan virtually discussed via Zoom the Food Safety Hazards focusing on its three types specifically: physical, biological, and chemical hazards. Expounding the topic, Ms. Marasigan gave examples on each of the hazard types and their effects to the consumers. Other foci discussed were factors contributing to the growth of microorganisms that affect the quality of food and different control measures for the different types of hazards. Her discussion ended with a workshop participated by the Silent Integrated Farm staff and barangay officials from Brgy. Dagatan Liliw, Laguna. The event was closed with Engr. Del Rosario’s conduct of an infrastructure audit and site inspection to identify hazards in the farm’s processing area thus providing the beneficiary an evaluation and basis for their next mitigating steps.
