The Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A (DOST IV-A) proclaimed the winners of the 2015 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) in CALABARZON last October 29, 2015 at Robinsons Place Dasmariñas, Cavite.

RICE started in 2011 which is conducted every two (2) years to serve as the qualifying round for the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE). This is in support to Republic Act No. 7459 known as the “Inventors and Inventions Incentives Act of the Philippines.”

Los Baños, Laguna— The Department of Science and Technology CALABARZON will hold the election of officers for its new media network after the conduct of its first Science Journalism Seminar that will be held on September 11, 2015 at Harana Pavilion, Splash Mountain Resort, Los Baños, Laguna.

In response to President Aquino’s National Program on Poverty Alleviation, the Department of Science and Technology developed the program entitled “Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology” dubbed as the CEST Program. It aims to empower the poor and the marginalized sector and to improve the quality of living thru science and technology. Packaged S&T interventions are focused to five (5) entry points: Health and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic Enterprise and Development and Disaster Risk Reduction/ Climate Change Mitigation.

The Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A (DOST IV-A) carried out the 2015 Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Awarding Ceremony on March 24, 2015 at the Regional Food Safety Quality Assurance Center (RFSQAC) Multipurpose Hall, DOST IV-A, Jamboree Road, Timugan, Los Baños, Laguna.

The YES Awards is a recognition system institutionalized by DOST through the DOST Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) to further motivate and inspire young achievers to strive for excellence in the fields of science and mathematics. It also aims to encourage youth students to pursue S&T courses in their future academic journey.

The Department of Science and Technology Region IV-A (DOST IV-A) organized the first Street Food Infomercial Contest in line with its project entitled “Upgrading of Street Food Vending Practices in Cities and Municipalities of CALABARZON Region” which started in the year 2011. It is an extension of the agency’s advocacy of food safety on street foods which aims to promote hygienic handling and safe preparation of street-vended food. It also allow the students of different HEIs in the region to showcase their skills and techniques in creating infomercials.
